Ball 2.0

Hello my friends, today's blog post will be exclusively to do with the fact that my High School had its ball last night. Because I know you don't care about anything else, here are some photos of what I wore to this event. (I'm just going to assume that you care about this as well) (I'm going to put this under the cut because it's quite long and boring if you don't care)

It's exciting stuff, really. It's a teensy bit annoying that my dress looks better in real life that it does on film, as the photos are all anyone cares about, but u kno.
This was actually the first time I didn't make my entire dress by hand- the top half is an altered top from The Ragged Priest, that I bought off topshop.com. Sorry kiddos, they don't sell it any more, but the brand is still alive and well so probably check it out I reckon.
Here's the original top in all its glory.
As you can see, I switched it up a little bit. I don't know if it was just me that this happened to, but the leather binding stuck out at a really weird angle and the shoulders were waaaay too big for me. I s'pose that's what happens when someone my size goes for "one size fits all".
To overcome this issue (haaahaaaa, I sound like I'm writing in my fabrics class book) I snipped a huge panel out of the back and sewed it back together again most of the way up, and then used the offcuts to make a bow to tie up at the back and keep the shoulder spikes in place. Nobody likes lopsided shoulders. In a fit of rage I cut off the leather binding as well, and about 30cm off the bottom.
I don't know if you can see this in the photos, but I machine embroidered rainbow threads into the top as well. I dunno, I just like pizazz. Slash garishness.
I've already mentioned the bottom half on this blog many many times. The fabric is the cotton voile available on spoonflower.com. In case you forgot, or really just don't care that much about what I do, here it is.

woah exciting woah. I've never actually made anything like the above skirt, so this entire thing was just guesswork. It involved a lot of wearing a half finished skirt over my PJ pants and pinning for more time than I care to mention. I also hand sewed the pieces in place because sometimes I doubt my machine sewing accuracy. :'(.
The shoes were last summer's impulse purchase in the Gold Coast and I've worn them like 3 times. #wisedecisions.
But yeah, with the fabrics discussion out of the way, we can discuss the rest of the night. Was fab!! Except for the fact that the photographer's camera died part way through, so the only photographic memories I have are me and my boyfriend pissing around. Ahhh well, it happens. Let's not pretend that I would have been sensible in the rest of the shots. I wasn't sensible in any aspect of the ball. especially not the buffet. I should really learn my limits.

WAIT, NO. FABRICS TALK IS BACK ON. I also made the bowtie Sammy is wearing! Fucking cool, am I right. I was overly proud of it, cos it was the first one I'd ever made, and I babbled about it to anyone that would listen. The alcohol didn't help in this area. I need to sort out my life choices.

UNTIL NEXT TIME,
TESS. XOXO

P.s. Today I found out I already passed the year with excellence so I'm feeling goooood. Not as good as I could feel (or look) though--- I am living proof that the best kind of make up is make up that you leave on overnight because you're too lazy to take it off.

What a role model.
