I'm pretty much Santa

Today I am feeling extremely self-satisfied because I have gotten about 70% of my christmas shopping out of the way in one fell swoop. It was an epic journey, with my Mother, her car, and her wallet in tow. This generosity turned out to be a ruse, as she held the purchases for ransom until I completed a variety of cleaning tasks. I tried to tell her that witholding fabric was considered a felony in a variety of countries, but unfortunately she didn't entirely agree.

On that topic, my Mamma is a nightmare to go fabric shopping with. It's like having a toddler in many respects. More than once she has threatened to throw rolls of fabric in a javelin-like fashion, to which I relaliate by giving her a swift pinch. Actually, just thinking about it, we're both just toddlers at our core.

Anyway. Read More and so on.

These great items are for my own selfish needs. They're like tinsel in a fabric!! The photo just doesn't entirely capture their beauty. I am not ashamed to say that I completely flipped out when I saw it, prompting Mum to say "stop having an orgasm over fabric, you freak". I could have a whole seperate blog on the topic of "Tess' mum talks fabrics". These will hopefully become a festive pair of two-toned pants. Watch this space. (P.S. IT'S FROM SPOTLIGHT)

I got these two cottons to (probably) make pinafore style dresses for my sister. She is most certainly the type to wear Octopi and bears. That's all there is to be said. I'm also making her a thug as raincoat, I'll update on that at another time and place as this post is already looking a bit lengthy, and it deserves readers who are feeling attentive. No offense. (P.S THIS IS ALSO FROM SPOTLIGHT)

These two suedes are going into a jacket for my darling mother. The black is actually double sided- one side's suede, the other side's pleather. I don't even know what that means for construction, but it looks quite exciting. The brown actually has a really subtle print in it which hopefully means I won't be bored to tears while making it. My favourite part of these two is that Mum paid for them without knowing they were for her- my christmas gift is the child labour rather than the actual materials themselves.
Because the black is part pleather, it stinks of fish, one of pleather's favourite pastimes. But how does one wash it without ruining the suede on the other side? These are the questions that haunt me.

Aaaand this is going into a coat for the boyfriend. Ever since I made him the original coat for his birthday a few months ago, he's never taken it off. We decided it may be wise to get him another one, so he can at least have some kind of rotation going. Picking these fabrics was highly stressful and I have never doubted my own taste level so much in my life. The wool selection was limited to begin with due to New Zealand coming into summer, and I've never been that great at picking fabrics for other people to begin with. My self doubt manifested into me sending Sam a series of texts along the lines of "WHAT IS YOUR STANCE ON POLKADOTS????". No reply was recieved. I'm quite pleased with these, I like them more the longer I look at them. I thought I could make the diagonal print of the left go all sorts of different ways across the jacket and it would be quite exciting, and have the orange for lil accents because otherwise I will feel uneasy about life and my place in it. I'll keep you (ahahah, me, having readers) posted, I s'pose. Unless it all goes tits up and I'm too embarrassed to tell anyone.
